The Wayland City Police Department expects to add an officer later this month.

Police Chief Steve Harper told the City Council Monday night that Tony Perez has been offered the post. It may take as long as a couple of weeks before he comes on board because he is working part time for two departments.

Perez will succeed Jason Beckwith, who left three months ago to take a full-time job with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
