Just in time for Wayland’s Sesquicentennial celebration this weekend downtown, the new sign in front of of Wayland Family Dentistry at 404 W. Superior has been erected to improve the view on the busy street.
Wayland City officials had gotten a bit impatient with owners Robinson Dental Care over the old sign, a cloth draped over the old dental practice sign. They insisted it was in violation of the local sign ordinance and it had been at least two years since anything has been done about the issue.
Robinson Dental opened a clinic at 404 West Superior, its former location before it moved to new digs on Reno Drive several years ago. The clinic was opened to serve patients who struggle to afford dental care or don’t have proper insurance.
Though city officials say they support the concept of the clinic, the sign must conform to the same rules as all other businesses within the city limits.
The cloth draped over the former sign of Robinson Dental was allowed on a temporary basis until a more permanent one could be installed. The new sign conforms with the local sign ordinance.
