The Watson Township Board Thursday evening appointed Jack Wood to fill out the remainder of the four-year term of Trustee Chuck Andrysiak.
Andrysiak, 58, was killed Monday, March 16, in a traffic crash. He had served on the Township Board for almost 12 years and was the board’s liaison on the Township Planning Commission. He also was a Democratic Party delegate, a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals and former chairman of the Planning Commission.
Wood, a Republican, recently retired as a deputy for the Kent County Sheriff’s Department and remains a part-time deputy for Allegan County. He has indicated an interest in seeking the position in the Aug. 4 primary election.
Wood and his wife, Karen, have two sons, both of whom attend Hopkins schools.
In other business at the monthly regular meeting, the board adopted the fiscal year 2020-2021 budget that will be in effect until March 31, 2021.
The budget is projected at $324,213, with an estimated general fund balance of 269,327.
