Next folk gathering Saturday to welcome school principal

Carl Rust, whoCarl Rust says he’s been a newspaperman, factory worker, teacher, chef, bottle washer, dog walker, professional wrestler and author, singer, songwriter and filmmaker, will be the special guest at the next Rabbit River Folk Gathering at 6 p.m. Saturday at Vibrant Grains Bakery and Restaurant, 142 S. Main St., Wayland.

Born in Kentucky, Rust grew up in northwest Ohio. On his web site, he indicates he has been writing and performing for 25 years. He now lives in Indiana with his wife Robin, a dog and a cat. His current full-time job is an assistant principal at an elementary school, but he performs music as often as he can.

Rust has put together 12 albums of original music. His latest, released in February with his nephew, Brian, is “Have a Nice Trip, See You Next Fall!”

Rust’s program will be followed by the customary open mic time starting at 6:45. An all-musician jam session will start at 8 p.m., and attendees are welcome to bring their own folk music instruments.
