The Wayland girls’ varsity softbWayland softball invitationalall team, ranked No. 1 in this week’s statewide Class B poll, did absolutely nothing Saturday to hurt its lofty standing.

The Lady Wildcats lifted their overall season record to 17-1 by claiming the championship in the Wayland Invitational. They started their day with victories over Cedar Springs and Lake Odessa Lakewood and finished with a victory in the championship round over St. Joseph, ranked No. 10 in this week’s Class B poll.

It has been a hug week for coach Cheri Ritz’s group, which a week ago won the Gull Lake Invitational by taking out Portage Central, the No. 1 team in Class A.
