The continuing gWHS Boys Hoops 2015-16ood news is that the Wayland boys’ varsity basketball team remains ranked No. 4 in the latest Class B Associated Press state-wide poll.

The bad news is that the Wildcats will face Wyoming Godwin Heights, rated No. 1, in their first post-season tournament game one month hence, Monday evening, March 7, at Grand Rapids South Christian High School. Both teams have posted 10-1 records overall for their seasons thus far.

The Wolverines last year ended Wayland’s season with a 19-4 record in the district finals before they went on to win the state Class B championship. That game was played before a packed house at Godwin, but South Christian’s gym is smaller.

Wayland now is coming off a huge 53-47 victory over Class A Grand Rapids Ottawa after the two squads entered the game tied for first in the O-K Gold Conference. The Wildcats’ only loss was to Forest Hills Central and Godwin’s only defeat was at the hands of Hudsonville, both Class A schools.

Wayland will travel to Middleville Thornapple Kellogg Friday evening to start the second round of league play.
