No service slated for former Wayland woman Mary Stoken

Mary Louise Stoken (Garter), formerly of Wayland, died Tuesday, July 9. She was 85.

Mary loved the beaches and the lighthouse of Grand Haven, where she grew up and went to high school. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at Sandy Pines, feeding the fish under her dock, swimming, boating and fishing as well.

Mary was highly skilled at building gyroscopes at L3 Communications, which she did for many years.

Mary is survived by her sister Marjorie Scoon, sister Hazel (John) Raddatz and brother Alan(Patti) Garter, sons August(Lynn) Swanson, Mark Stoken, Kenneth(Robin) Stoken and daughter Jeri Rene’(Brian) Wooten. All of her children were graduates of Wayland High School.

She also is survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie(Jon) Coeling, Jodi (Chris) Steimel, Joseph(Samantha) Stoken, Alicia(Mark) Scobey, Kenneth Jr(Samantha) Stoken, Danyel(Carl Long) Wooten, Ryan(Amanda) Wooten, and her 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Taylor (Beverly) Garter and Beatrice(Foster) Clouse and brother in law, Dave Scoon.

Per her wishes, cremation has taken place with no memorial planned.
