Both the Wayland boys’ and girls’ track teams Wednesday absorbed O-K Gold Conference dual meet losses to East Grand Rapids at Reed’s Lake.

The boys lost 95-42 and the girls 125.5 to 115.5. The Lady Wildcats have the misfortune of competing with four of the top 10 teams in the state in their own league — East Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Christian, Thornapple Kellogg and Forest Hills Eastern.

Nonetheless, Maggie Whitney blistered her previous best with a state qualifying effort in the 800 meters, taking second place with a time of 2:22. Sophomore Zoe Antel ran season best of 2:49.09.

McKenna Dutkiewicz was third in the shot put, with a personal best of 28’1″ and won the discus with a PR of 83’5.25.″ Brittany Ludwig tied for third in the high jump with a leap of 4’4.″ Freshman, Asiia Sok, took second in the pole vault. Khylea Wells took third in the 100 with a PR time of 14.44 and was third in the 200.

The Wildcat boys came up short against the depth of the Pioneers, but there were many season bests.

Wayland winners:

  • Lee Anderson 110 hurdles, 16.16 seconds.
    • Seth Sevenski-Popa 100 meters, 11.81.
    • Lee Anderson 300 intermediate hurdles, 42.42.
    • Elijah Veldman pole vault, 10’6.″
    • Caleb Wolf, Lee Anderson, Anthony Muscarella and Seth Sevenski-Popma 1600 relay, 3:35.37.

The Wildcats travel west of US-131 to participate in the Hopkins Invitational Saturday.
