The site of the former Blanco Furniture store at the corner of 10th Street and 124th Avenue in Shelbyville finally witnessed the razing of the eyesore buildings. The furniture store, established in 1946, was closed nearly 25 years ago, but nothing was done until this month about the aging and dilapidated structures that were left behind. Wayland Township Supervisor Roger VanVolkingburg announced the buildings had been razed in a controlled burn supervised by the Wayland Fire Department. The supervisor said all that’s left now is a little bit of smoldering smoke still coming out of the ground, but it is not expected to be a problem.
