Christmas Eve brought the first real snow event in this area for the 2020-21 winter season, but a nasty winter event finally occurred on New Year’s Day. It all started with freezing drizzle on New Year’s Eve night (pictured at left by Jeni Yanke), causing plenty of traffic crashes along U.S.-131 and I-94 because of icy roads. Then came snow Friday evening and into Saturday morning, prompting the activation of snow throwers and snow plows. This telling photo (cover) was posted on Facebook by Debbie Jensen Tomko, who said this was her nephew finding a humorous way to welcome her back from a holiday vacation in Jamaica.
