An SUV rolled over and crashed Friday afternoon in Hopkins Township, killing the teen-aged passenger.

Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies reported that a teen not old enough to drive was at the wheel of the vehicle when she lost control on a gravel road on 20th Street near 136th Avenue west of Wayland, near the border between Hopkins and Dorr townships.

Sheriff’s authorities said two teen girls were in the SUV without their parents’ knowledge and they weren’t wearing seat belts. The passenger who was thrown from the vehicle and killed had just received her driver’s permit. She was thrown from the SUV and died at the scene of the crash.

The driver was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for observation and was treated for injuries. She was driving because her friend was trying to prepare her driver’s training, authorities said.

The names and ages of the two girls have not been disclosed as yet.
