Jon Otis Burnette, 63, of Orangeville Township, was convicted in Barry County Circuit of two counts of murder for the deaths of a neighbor and Comstock Park man.
Burnett was convicted of fatally shooting 73-year-old neighbor Gary Peake, and 21-year-old Bryce DeGood of Comstock Park on Lewis Road in June 2019. The shootings took place after a woman who formerly lived with Burnett and his wife came to his house to retrieve belongings she had left behind.
Authorities alleged that Burnett came outside with a handgun and told the woman to get off his property and then began choking his wife, Lynne Burnett, after she protested his actions. Lynne Burnett then went to the Barry Township Police Department for help.
Police found DeGood dead in the road and Burnett told police he also shot his neighbor.
Prosecutors said he also fired at two motorists and pointed his gun at others. He will be sentenced Sept. 25.
And some folks think we should defund our Police. What a shame.
