Pine Street and Dorr Elementary special education teachers wanted to get their students involved to help raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation on behalf of the Mshar family who has two special needs children and whose mother is battling, Guillian-Barre syndrome — an autoimmune disorder that causes muscle weakness.
Pine Street teacher Karen Iehl, challenged Dorr Elementary teacher Cierra Winne to a Penny War. Both schools had seven days to see who could raise the most money. The money raised will go to the Make a Wish Foundation on behalf of the Mshar family.
The local school district has brothers, one in each building (Pine and Dorr) who had won a trip through Make a Wish to Disney. The family is raising money for other kids to enjoy a life changing event as they did as a family.
After a close race in the penny war, Pine Street raised $1190.45 and Dorr Elementary raised a total of $1256.76 which made Dorr the winner. Some might insist they were all winners for this great cause after raising $2,447 for Make A Wish.
