The Wayland girls’ soccer team couGirls-Soccerldn’t capitalize on their offensive chances and ended up taking their first conference loss of the season, 4-1 to perennial powerhouse South Christian.

“They battled strong throughout the game and were the more dangerous team attacking the goal,” said coach Ben Sleeman.

Indeed, Wayland came up with an equal number of shots on goal as the Sailors.

Junior Ali Cutler scored the ‘Cats’ only goal, assisted by Brinley Nieuwenhuis. Hannah Anderson had four saves in goal.

Wayland, now 3-3 overall, will be back in action Friday night at home against Jenison.
