The sixth grade Pine Street Elementary Odyssey of the Mind team placed first in “Mockumentary! Seriously?,” Division 2 at the regional OM tournament at Wayland High School.

Team members are Olivia Stein, Owen Fulk, Declan Smith, Danica Smith, Zadok Shafer, Breana Blackford and Bailee Merren and is coached by parent Dawn Stein. They received first place medals will advance to the state level competition held at Thornapple Kellogg High School Saturday, March 17

The state competition offers free admission and the Wayland schools community is invited to attend to enjoy the performances and to cheer on the Pine Street team.

Student Zadok Shafer received the only individual “OMers Award” for being an excellent motivator on his team.

Six teams from Wayland Union Schools competed at the Odyssey of the Mind regionals. The teams, with students from kindergarten through eighth grade, competed in four different problems. Each problem required a team to create an eight-minute performance to demonstrate their solution to the problems. Teams competed in the problems “Triathalon Travels,” “Mockumentary! Seriously?” “A Stellar Hangout” and “We’re Cooking Now.”

 

The third and fourth grade Steeby Elementary team placed third out of six teams in their problem “Mockumentary! Seriously?,” Division 1. The team consists of students Violette Cooper, Kaitlyn Sullivan, Layla Gibson, Lauren Ward, Megan Stack, Sierra Higbee and Patience Hawley and was coached by parents Amy Clement and Kelly Stack. The team received third place medals at the awards ceremony.
