Dorr Township Trustee John Tuinstra last month insisted that he be allowed to proofread and make corrections to the draft master plan submitted by Nathan Mehmed of Williams & Works engineers.
But the Dorr Township Planning Commission Tuesday evening unanimously to permit only spelling corrections and grammatical errors, but not make any substantial changes to the document.
Tuinstra told Dorr Township Board colleagues he wanted to correct errors and was not kind in his assessment of the job Williams & Works did on the master plan, according to an e-mail Commissioner Dan Beute received.
Commission Chairman Bob Wagner said he did not received any communication from Tuinstra on the matter.
Lori Castello of Professional Code Inspections, zoning administrator, said if there are too many corrections made to the master plan it will have to go to a public hearing again and she noted the township’s contract with Mehmed says he can attend only more meeting.
Township officials have been overseeing master plan revision for nearly two years because it had not been updated since 2007.
Beute said, “The majority of what he (Tuinstra) doesn’t like is phraseology, spelling and grammar. A lot of this was from the 2007 plan. He took the history of the 2007 version forward. It was just picking everything apart.”
He added that the master plan was brought before the Township Board for examination in 2013 and as a trustee then, he didn’t raise objections.
“Personally, I don’t think we should do anything with this and forward it to Williams & Works and PCI and let them handle it,” said Wagner.
The Planning Commission must examined the document before sending along its recommendation to the Township Board.
Beute summed up the situation by moving to allow mimor corrections and spelling changes, but not permit anything substantial be done.
It’s surreal, Dorr Township voters still vote him into office.
Can’t wait to see what happens next. Where will John strike next ? The Township board, the assessor, the treasurer, the office secretary, the maintenance crew, the parks, …..
It’s Dorr Townships version of “Where’s Waldo”…..
Harry,
Ever heard the saying.. don’t believe anything you hear or read and only half of what you see. Incredible wisdom. For today’s depraved world.

From my personal experience with Trustee Tuinstra, I can say with much creedence. Everything ever reported is “spot on”
It’s possible you know a much different Trustee Tuinstra, than I met when he was first elected.
Hence we shall agree to disagree about the value of Trustee Tuinstra being a member of the Dorr Township Board.
