Presley has nice ‘homecoming’ in leading CMU past WMU

Presley Hudson2 CMUFormer Lady Wildcat Presley Hudson had a nice “homecoming” Saturday afternoon, scoring 17 points in leading Central Michigan University to a 73-61 victory at Western Michigan University.

Hudson, a 2015 Wayland High School graduate, made just one three-point goal in the first half, but nailed back-to-back threes early in the second half to erase a 37-35 deficit and send the Chippewas (19-8) on their way to a victory that clinched at least a share of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) West title.

Down the stretch, Hudson made three baskets inside the paint and two Wildcats and Presleyfree throws. She leads the MAC in free throw accuracy with 89 percent and is ninth in the nation in that category among Division I schools. She also leads the Chippewas in scoring at 13.5 points per game.

Hudson was a Class B all-state basketball player at Wayland and was runner-up in the balloting for Miss Basketball. Her father, Mike Hudson, is head varsity basketball coach at Wayland. Brother Wes was an NAIA All-American while playing at Cornerstone University and brother Avery is the second leading scorer on this year’s Wayland team that just won the O-K Gold Conference championship.

As expected, all members of the current Wayland High School basketball team were in attendance Saturday at WMU.
