Former Wayland High School all-state basketball star Presley Hudson broke Central Michigan University’s individual scoring record for one game with 43 points Wednesday night in a 101-92 victory over Ball State.

Hudson, a sophomore, was 13-for-18 in shooting and surpassed CMU’s video coordinator, Shonda Long, who scored 40 points for CMU in the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals in 2011. The daughter of Wayland High School varsity boys’ basketball coach also tied a single-game record for three-pointers with nine and CMU as a team set the single-game record with 17.

Hudson has been on a huge run lately. She was Mid-American Conference Player of the Week back to back after scoring 36, 35 and 21 points in key victories. She is among the leaders in free throw shooting nationally and leads CMU in scoring, assists, free throw shooting and steals.

After a tightly contested third quarter, CMU led by nine points heading to the fourth. The Cardinals were down just 94-92 with 3:28 left in the game but then Hudson scored seven straight unanswered points to put the game away and keep CMU undefeated in Mid-American Conference play and 12-4 overall.

Four other Chippewas scored in double-figures. Junior guard Aleah Swary had 14 points, sophomore forward Reyna Frost had 12 points, while senior forward Jewel Cotton tallied 10 points.

Hudson was a four-year starter for the Lady Wildcats and shared the individual game scoring record with Angie Farmer Stauffer with 40 points. Besides being a Division 2 all-state selection, she was voted runner-up in the balloting for Miss Basketball in 2015.
