Wayland High School graduate and former all-state basketball player Presley Hudson has been tearing up with the Mid-American Conference this month.

Hudson, daughter of Wayland High School boys’ varsity basketball coach Mike Hudson, was named MAC Player of the week for the third straight week and she leads the league in individual scoring with 33.8 points per game. Her team, Central Michigan University, sports a 6-0 record in league and she and her Chippewa teammates have their sights set on going to the NCAA post-season tournament.

Hudson, a sophomore guard, averaged 38.5 points and 4.5 assists in leading the Chippewas to a 101-92 win over Ball State and a 76-65 overtime victory at Bowling Green.

Hudson, who scored a CMU women’s basketball and McGuirk Arena-record 43 points in the win over Ball State made 61.5 percent of her field goal attempts (24-of-39) overall including 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from 3-point range. She tied the program record with nine 3-pointers in the win over Ball State.

Hudson followed that performance with 34 points in Saturday’s victory over Bowling Green. She scored 29 of her points after halftime. She had 11 of CMU’s 15 overtime points.

In MAC games, Hudson is shooting 58.7 percent (54-of-92) from the field. She has made nearly 60 percent (28-of-47) of her 3-point attempts in league games.

Hudson was a four-year starter for the Lady Wildcats and shared the individual game scoring record with Angie Farmer Stauffer with 40 points. Besides being a Division 2 all-state selection, she was voted runner-up in the balloting for Miss Basketball in 2015.
