Former Wayland High School standout Presley Hudson Saturday added one more honor to her star-studded basketball career. She scored 28 points in a tough 78-75 loss to Ohio University, but became Central Michigan University’s all-time leading scorer.

Hudson now has 2,093 points in her career, surpassing Melvin “Sugar” McLaughlin, who played from 1980 to 1983. She broke the CMU women’s career scoring record earlier this season.

Hudson, daughter of Wayland High School varsity basketball coach Mike Hudson, is averaging 20.8 points per game this season. She has made 45 percent of her two-point field goal attempts and 39 percent of her threes. She holds the school record for career threes, assists, scoring and probably has no equal at the free throw line, where she has made 92.3% this year and better than 90% in her career.

Hudson was a four-year starter at Wayland and in her senior year was a Division 2 all-state selection and runner-up in the annual Miss Basketball competition. She was named Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year and has been all-MAC first teamer ever since.

Perhaps her biggest thrill was leading the Chippewas to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA women’s tournament last year, scoring 28 points in CMU’s stunning victory over Ohio State in the district finals.

Older brother Wes is head girls’ varsity basketball coach. Younger brother Avery is a decorated sophomore playing for Davenport University. Younger Brother Ternor is a starter on the boys’ varsity squad at WHS and sister Parrish is a sophomore on the girls’ varsity.
