Private celebration of life planned for Judy Chambers

Judith Joslin Chambers, 79 of Kalamazoo, died Saturday, June 10, after a long battle with cancer.

Judy was born Nov. 26, 1943, to Romaine and Clarence Joslin in Pleasant Ridge, MI. After Clarence passed away, she was adopted by G. Norman Gilmore.

Judy graduated in 1962 from Grosse Pointe High School, where she was a competitive synchronized swimmer. She went on to study education at Ferris State University and Western Michigan University. Judy graduated from WMU and was a lifelong educator with a passion for helping people receive their GED. She retired from the Goodwill Industries adult education program in 2012. Judy loved helping people learn, grow, and accomplish this huge life goal.

It was during her college years when Judy met her husband, Larry Chambers. Judy and Larry were married Sept. 30, 1966. They had two children, Blake and Amy, and were happily married until Larry passed away in 1995. Together they enjoyed music, laughter and a great, home-cooked Sunday dinner.

Judy was later remarried to Barry Meade in 2008 and remained married until he passed away in 2021. They had several canine companions they loved very much. Judy was an avid reader and loved gardening and knitting.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children Blake (Amber) Chambers, Amy (Rob) Crowel; grandchildren Joslin Greenfield, Rowan Crowel, Lorelai Chambers, and Paul (Julia) Baker; great-grandchildren Hailey and Mikyla Baker; and sister, Janie (Sheryl) Joslin.

In typical Judy fashion, there are no services planned. A private celebration of life will occur with close family at a later date.
