Private family memorial to be held for John Koster, 63

John Eric Koster of Grandville, formerly of Wayland, died last Thursday at the age of 63.

He was born Sept. 24, 1959, in Grand Rapids, the son of James Koster and Phyllis (Larson) Koster. John graduated from Wayland Union High School in 1977 and from Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City in 1979 with a degree in applied sciences.

In 1980, John moved to Texas where he worked for Otis Engineering for several years before moving back to Michigan where he was employed by the City of Grand Rapids Water Treatment Facility from 1990 until his retirement in 2021.

He enjoyed golf, fishing and spending time with his daughter – especially their yearly summer trips to Traverse City for the Cherry Festival, sandy beaches and clear water.

John is survived by his daughter, Samantha Koster; sister, Leslie (Denny) Guernsey; brother, Mark Koster; nephews and nieces, Blair (Korry) Hogan, Gavin Guernsey, Justin (Baily) Koster, Jaimie (Greg) Reynolds.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Koster; mother, Phyllis Koster.

A private family memorial will take place at a later date
