Gary Harlan Williams of Martin, 80 years old, died Saturday, July 23, after a long bout with cancer.
He was a 1953 graduate of Coventry High in Portage Lakes, Ohio. His love for trucking was inherited from his father, a lifelong semi owner/operator. Gary began his trucking career as a dock hand at Dixie Ohio Express. This proved to be too much like work, so he moved to the driver’s seat where he spent 58 years driving for Midwest Emory, Bender Loudon and Foreway. After his official retirement, he drove a truck for the Drozd family farm, in Allegan,
He is survived by sons Mark, Richard, and Jeff, and step-son, Brian Bailiff. He is also survived by a brother, JD Williams (Mary Ann), and a sister, Connie Ferrebee (Melvin), seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
He is preceded by his wife, Bobbie, father and mother, Jesse and Drucilla Williams, sister, Betty, brother, Lee, and a son, Scott.
A private service with family only has already taken place.
