Promising newcomers dominated the first track meet for the Hopkins boys’ and girls’ teams March 26 at the Wendy’s Track & Filed Challenge at Aquinas College.

The best individual performance for the day was turned in by senior Savannah Emaus, who tied for second in the pole vault at 9-0.

The best finish for relays was put together by

the special 400-, 200-, 200- and 400-meter relay team with Evangelina Helderop, Paris Corneille, Emaus and Emma Helder.

Among top five finishes by Vikings were:

  • Junior Todd Henley was fifth in the open 1600-meter run with a time of 4:48.14.
  • Freshman Logan Klinge was fifth in the pole vault by clearing 11 feet. He also was 11th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9:45 seconds.

In other results:

  • Emaus finished sixth in the long jump at 15-11 and was eighth in the 60-meter dash in 8.5 seconds.
  • Senior Jasmine Fisher sixth in the open 1600 meters in 5:57.56.
  • The 3200-meter relay team of Fisher, Alyssa Beilby, Mary Wells and Helder was sixth in 11:25.91.

The 1600-meter relay tem was ninth with Helderop, Lauren Brown, Cassidy Finney and Helder.

Best of the boys’ relays was 12th in the special relay of 400-, 200-, 200- and 400-meter relay with Dan Rausch, Hunter Braford, Trey Collins and Quinten Prather in 2:51.8. and 14th in the 3200, with Todd Henley, Luke Tuinstra, Logan Hugmeyer and Dan Rausch, in 9:41.

Freshman Tanner Neuman tied for 15th in the long jump at 17-9.

Freshman Grace Brenner 12th in the shot put at 29-9.
