Public safety Beat: Deputies seek runaway suspect in Moline

Allegan County Sheriff2Moline residents expressed some dismay Tuesday evening that police were chasing a runaway suspect in the neighborhood without many of them knowing about the potential danger.

One longtime local resident posted on Facebook, “Right by my house and I knew nothing about it. This resident was not on any alert as no police ever told us about it.”

A heavy police presence was reported near 12th Street and 144th Avenue in Moline just before 8 p.m. Allegan County Sheriff’s authorities acknowledged looking for a man who had warrants issued against him and who was fleeing apprehension. A K-9 unit was brought in to help with the search.

A Moline woman commented on Facebook, “Nobody ever even told us what was going on or to stay inside. Found out what was going on off a local garage sale site on FB where I saw people talking about it.”

Another neighborhood resident said, “We had to go outside to find out. There were police walking through everyone’s yards checking sheds and garages. But they did not knock on our doors to say stay inside.”

There was no indication whether or not the suspect was apprehended.
