A section of the southbound US-131 expressway south of Martin has been closed in the wake of a crash involving a semi-truck.
The Michigan Department of Transportation reported that the freeway was closed at 124th Avenue (Exit 59, Shelbyville) at about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday. However, a motorist waiting for traffic to clear has insisted the exit is No. 50, which is just a mile north of Plainwell.
Roads have been reported as being slick because of a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain in West Michigan Tuesday morning and afternoon.
The inclement weather conditions have resulted in afternoon and evening events and activities being shut down Tuesday. Included in the cancellations were the Wayland Fitness Center, Bingo at St. Therese, Hopkins Middle School basketball and almost all school-related functions.
