Pierre Brazeau will retire from his job at end of the month as director of public services for the City of Wayland.

Brazeau, who has worked for the city since 1983, is stepping down from his supervisory post he has held since 1996, succeeding Dick Baxter.

City Manager Mike Selden, who made the announcement of Brazeau’s retirement Monday night, said his position will be split in half, just like it had been in bygone days. Cole Lutz, a 13-year employee with the city, will be streets superintendent and Ben Bachelder, a 19-year veteran, will take over water and wastewater.

Lutz, a 2001 graduate of Wayland High School, said he’s lived in the area all his live, but now resides in Shelbyville. He also is a graduate of Western Michigan University.

Bachelder actually is a Kalamazoo Loy Norrix grad but has lived in Wayland for a long time.
