Sexual assault report on Rabbit River Trail not true

A month-long investigation has determined that a report of a sexual assault on the Rabbit River Trail March 10 was unfounded.

Wayland City Police asked for the public’s help in the investigation of a complaint of a sexual assault on the Rabbit River Trail off East Elm Street just to the east of the Laurels of Sandy Creek nursing center. However, the probe left the conclusion that the assault did not occur.

A “victim” contended the assault occurred at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10, when two men approached her while she was walking on the trail. She said the suspects afterward ran north along the river. She provided descriptions of both.

The Wayland Police Department said in a Tuesday press release that the matter has been referred to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department.
