Rumors and news have been swirling around three local businesses this week.
Actual news is that Railside Auto Service on Railroad Street in Wayland has been sold, as has Dorr Pharmacy to the Walgreens retail giant.
Scott Schneider has sold Railside to Brittany and Aaron Laninga of Hamilton. The longtime service was started up by Joe Miller more than 25 years ago.
Co-owner Brittany Laninga said, “I have worked in the automotive industry since 2008. Aaron worked here many years ago when his father also worked here (at Railside). He currently is a logistics coordinator and supervisor for a company that specializes in quality control.”
The sale was finalized last Friday.
Brittany said her father-in-law was good friends with Schneider and found out he was interested in selling.
The business has three auto mechanics, but Aaron as one of them is in training. Former employees were not rehired.
A Dorr Pharmacy employee, when contacted, would neither confirm nor deny the sale of the local drug store. However, several local residents posted on Facebook:
“Dorr Pharmacy has sold out to Walgreens. As of tomorrow (Wednesday), the doors will be locked. All prescriptions are being transferred to Walgreens on 84th Street. I have verified this information.”
“I heard Dorr Pharmacy is closing and Walgreens has bought them. Today is the last day. I picked up my meds this morning and there are no signs, tech said nothing to me. Party store was closed which seemed odd. Anybody know whats going on?”
The rumor continues to be about the Elias Brothers Big Boy restaurant that closed last year.
One poster on Facebook insisted the former eatery by the U.S.-131 expressway on West Superior will be occupied by Brann’s Steakhouse, owned by former State Rep. Tommy Brann.
However, several others continue to maintain a Culver’s restaurant will take over, prompted by the current owner of the Biggby’s Coffee drive-though just to east on Superior.
Walgreens….??? I am rather doubtful.
David
Walgreens did buy the business. Yes, we currently have to go to Walgreens on 84th or any other Walgreens to pickup our scripts. Or go somewhere else in the future. As of right now Dorr has no pharmacy.
Mr Smit, would there be any room over there in Dorr for David, the king of comments, but then again who the hell knows where he lives? But he sure likes to complain about everything and every issue no matter where it is.

Of course, Dorr has always welcomed new “Circus performers “….We do have a hard time keeping them at home. Many times they show up at other Township meetings to proclaim knowledge on various subjects.
Not sure where David is calling home. But surely there is or will be a government position opening soon in Dorr Township. He would be the ideal person to join the others. We can use all the help we can get.
