Ranger Rick: At Golden Globes, truth speaks to power

I didn’t watch the Golden Globe Awards last night.  I really don’t give a flying rat’s rear end who won what for what performance (although I have a weakness for Quentin Tarantino movies).

The emcee, Ricky Gervais,  displayed what a disgrace Hollywood has become.  And the people that allowed Hollywood to become the “golden idols” they’ve become is us. Yup you and me!  The golden ones among us think they know what is best for all of us because they are on the silver screen or boob tube (TV to those of you not Baby Boomers), even though many are not educated but think they know more than any of us “unwashed” in the population just because they are admired, giving them a sense of privilege.

Gervais’ reference to Felicity Huffman made the plate for the limousine he was riding in was priceless.  I don’t like people who cheat on anything, but folks let’s be honest here, all the people in that audience probably did the same thing for their college age Johnnie and Suzie.  And most politicians probably do the same thing — buying their kids’ entrance to colleges of their choice.

And isn’t it amazing, on $174,000 per year for representatives and senators; keeping a residence in their district and living in Washington D.C., money for groceries or restaurants, clothing, cleaning of apparel, monthly bills, taxi fares, etc. and they manage after being there for a few or many years they come out of the legislative meat-grinder multimillionaires?  How is that possible?  Can you say “insider trading”?  Can you say “graft and corruption.”

This is not one party or the other. It is all the Swamp Creatures.

I know people of modest means trying to get their child(ren) into local or state colleges and filling out form after form to allow them to have a better life than their parents and then there are people like Felicity Huffman paying thousands to get their kid(s) to the head of the line.  Is it fair? No.  But it is life, so get over it.

It ain’t gonna change until the public puts pressure on these overinflated assh@*^s and demand colleges stop the BS accepting buying entrance and level the playing field.  I doubt it will ever happen, but that’s what it will take.  Think how many deserving kids are not getting the shot they deserve to the college of their choice?

Some remarks about killing a scumbag

For those of you wringing your hands about the strike and killing of an Iranian official (I don’t want to honor him by using his name) — get a grip.

For years, the Iranians have had their asses kissed up to by both the Bushes, and more blatantly, by the Obama administrations.  They were both weak and ineffectual foreign policy presidents and Iran sensed the weakness and did what they wanted throughout the Mideast with impunity.  The powdered princes and ring knockers within the Pentagon and Chief of Staff are of the type that never saw combat, unlike the generals and upper military echelons of the past.  Most have been so far away from the units they oversee, they have no concept of what soldiers go through any more.  I bet there isn’t a “mustang” (enlisted given a field promotion to officer ranks) among them.

My commander, a full bird Colonel, was a P51 pilot during World War II and Korea.  He was in the Army Air Corps as an enlisted mechanic but he had a pilot’s license he earned while a civilian, and they needed pilots.  The rest is history.  He retired a Colonel and had the respect of all who served under him.  A gentleman and real man, standing up for right and for service members under his command.  I never heard anyone say a bad word about the man, and that folks is rare in the service.

If you think this strike against the scumbag will worsen the terrorist activity, think again.  They don’t need anything like this to get fired up, they hate us already.  They were just waiting for the right time to unleash terror again, and it will happen.  And I hope President Trump will take appropriate action.

And yes, I support the president in his scumbag strike and any following actions he deems necessary.  He has much more information than the talking heads and pundits about what is happening in the Mideast, so support your president in these difficult decisions.  If you don’t support him, that is your stance and detrimental to the country.  We need to be united in a times such as these.

The rotting of America from within continues…

Ordinarily I wouldn’t bother to comment on your ranting, but this comment cannot stand. ” He (Trump) has much more information than the talking heads and pundits about what is happening in the Mideast, so support your president in these difficult decisions.”
A duck has more information about what is happening in the Middle East than does the president! The president will not listen to advisors, or to experts about the region, and he notoriously refuses to read daily briefings on any issues.
Support your president, indeed. The man is a mental midget and detriment to us all.

Ms. Mandaville, your Trump Derangement Syndrome is out of control. Please take you TDS prescription to relieve your out of control blood pressure, your health is in jeopardy.

DTOM, you might do well to catch some of the syndrome you spout off about. Yours is a one-note song to anyone who dares criticize the ill-thought actions of a narcissist. The truth about those of us who oppose the president is not what you claim. Similar to the Christian mantra “hate the sin, not the sinner,” it is not Trump whom we dislike. It is the countless actions he takes that we take issue with. Give me a moderate Republican who might make the same choices and I’d be equally concerned. It is not the man, it is his method. And his method sucks.

But were you comfortable with the supreme narcissist, Barack Hussein Obama, when he gave $150 Billion in cash to Iran? You are the pot calling the kettle black!

Point of order, fact-checking sites have insisted Obama did not give Iran $150 billion.

          • Editor

President Trump moments ago repeated an oft-repeated assertion that Iran was “given $150 billion” by the 2015 nuclear agreement signed by the Obama administration.

Facts first: That figure is an exaggeration. And the money in question wasn’t American.

The US had agreed to unfreeze a significant sum of Iran’s assets that had been frozen in international financial institutions, predominantly outside the US, because of sanctions against Iran.

Trump did not pull the $150 billion figure out of thin air: Obama himself mused in a 2015 interview about Iran having “$150 billion parked outside the country.” But experts on Iran policy, and Obama’s administration, said that the quantity of assets the agreement actually made available to Iran was much lower.

In 2015, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew put the number at $56 billion. PolitiFact reported that Garbis Iradian, chief economist at the Institute of International Finance, put it at about $60 billion. Adam Szubin, a senior Treasury Department official, testified to Congress in 2015 that the “usable liquid assets” would total “a little more than $50 billion.” The rest of Iran’s foreign assets, he said, were either tied up in “illiquid” projects “that cannot be monetized quickly, if at all, or are composed of outstanding loans to Iranian entities that cannot repay them.”

Trump was more accurate on Wednesday when he claimed Iran had been given $1.8 billion “in cash.” The Obama administration did send Iran $1.7 billion — $400 million plus interest — to settle a decades-old dispute over a purchase of never-delivered US military goods Iran made before its government was overthrown in the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Tell us how you really feel about the President ….
Yes, we Trump minions, do believe this President like all Presidents do get more information about the Middle East than others do.
How any President acts on this information never pleases everyone. Some use money and trade agreements trying to buy peace others have chosen missiles and bullets to attempt to solve a problem.
I am not in favor of entering conflicts and not winning. The last war the United States was in and won was WW II…Korea, Vietnam, and all the Middle East actions….we never won.
Did anyone ever wonder why? It’s possible that the politicians and people of the United States do not have what it takes to win a war.
A war is only won when the enemy or enemies are beaten into submission ( conquered) or totally destroyed. War is a no holds barred fight…not a conflict with rules…and this is why waging what is called war today is a total waste of American energy and life.
It is my opinion that if there can’t be but one winner…why bother? American lives are worth more than claiming a tie….

    Point of order:

Then when Obama sent the cash, not a check or money order, the fake news reported $150 Billion was sent. That wasn’t a recent number, it was done a number if years ago, it wasn’t a just a Trump declared number.
So what is the real number of dollars sent? You must have access to the real number?

Is Snopes a credible and authoritative source of information?

Snopes is now 50% owned by an ad agency (Proper Media) and they make money by generating millions of views on the 3rd-party advertisements on their website. It simply makes sense for them to seek out articles that are viral to “debunk”, so that they can piggy-back on that traffic and generate more advertising revenue.

Snopes was founded by a husband and wife team who are now in the middle of a contentious divorce in which founder David Mikkelsen has been accused of embezzling $98,000 of company money to spend on “himself and prostitutes”.

Snopes now has a hired team of suspect fact checkers who collaborate to debunk falsehoods that are trending on the internet.
These fact checkers reportedly have no editorial oversight and do not follow standard journalistic procedures such as interviewing the authors of articles they are trying to debunk to get all sides of the story.

Snopes doesn’t have a formal screening process for hiring fact checkers and for evaluating applicants for any potential conflicts of interest. Without such standards, it is very easy for them to be infiltrated by those who work with the industry and who have a hidden agenda.

I want proof of the assertions made by DTOM. I haven’t seen sources with credible information. For that matter, where do you get what you just wrote?

      • Don't Tread On Me

The $150 Billion number was reported by the “fake news” you assert is truthful and having no bias in reporting ” news”. You even reportedly read Obama threw out that number in a brain fart of truth from the president’s mouth at the time, a president that frequently avoided the truth or “stretched” it. In other words, he was a classic Democrat liar, almost as good as Bubba Clinton and that takes some doing.

On another similar subject; it has been reported by fake news several amounts per month Hunter Biden received for being on Burisma’s Board. Is it 50,000, 80,000, 83,333.33 dollars per month? I’ve heard talking heads and read fake news and they all report different figures.
