Ranger Rick: Don’t let COVID-19 control our lives

State of Confusion:

I was listening to the radio in my truck Monday when the program announcer said they were going to talk with a barber from Owosso named Karl Manke.  He opened his shop to customers last week.  He has since received two citations.

He said he had to open up, he couldn’t afford to stay closed due to bills adding up with no income coming in.  Manke’s attorney said his client has a constitutional right to earn a living.  He also said the executive orders issued by Whitmer after April 30 were illegal and unlawful.  They had been made without the approval of the state legislators who declined to extend the state of emergency beyond the April 30 date.

I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Manke.  There is no state or federal law that forbids business owners to conduct business.  As long as the business is legal, there is no reason to curtail it.  He wears a mask, washes his hands between customers, and sterilizes his instruments with UV lights.  His customers are coming from long distances just to be able to get their locks sheared.

A pandemic only ceases when those involved finally decide they’ve had enough of staying scared and live in the land of the living.  The governor’s executive orders are illegal and not binding.  It will end up in court and Manke will prevail.  Just like the salon owner in Texas being released from jail, they lost in the court of public opinion.

People are not stupid.  They will take precautions such as wearing a mask and possibly gloves, wash their hands frequently, and abide by the six-foot social distancing.  The sun and outdoor air are the worst things for the Communist Chinese Coronavirus. Ultraviolet light kills the virus quickly – let the sunshine do i’s work!

It is time Governor Gretchen Whitmer quit playing politics and drop the executive orders.  Get back to work.

Federal Confusion Scene:

Over the weekend, it is becoming increasingly clear the exoneration for General Mike Flynn was justified and those involved should be prosecuted to the fullest extent.  But knowing the inequality of the people running government, only common people get arrested and punished.  Not presidents, not department heads, not even lowly legislators.

Government swamp dwellers seem to always slime away without any punishment.  What about Hillary destroying cellphones, destroying hard drives that the court said they needed for review/examination?  If you or I destroyed evidence, we would be behind bars.

Russia, Russia, Russia, didn’t work.  Stormy didn’t work.  Grab ’em by the… didn’t work. The Ukraine/Biden investigation didn’t work.  And a sleepy, unknowing, confused Robert Mueller didn’t work.  And now it is up to Joe Biden to put on the Superman suit and try to slay the Trumpster.   The Hildabeast was not up to the task 3.5 years ago, losing in a electoral landslide.

Let’s get serious.  Biden is a doddering, confused, dementia prone individual.  He will get his rear end kicked royally by someone of Trump’s ability.  Lately, he looks more confused than usual.

Democrats are basing all their hopes on someone that has a history of improper touching of girls and women, invading their personal space without invitation, being creepy “uncle” Joe.  Now a former office worker for Biden has come forward with a sexual accusation.  Knowing Biden’s history, how can you dismiss her accusations?

Then Biden has other hangers-on like his creepy son, sister and other relation that for years have taken advantage of the Biden largess during years in government.   Now that the shoe is on the other foot, how will the Democrats respond.  With overwhelming support for old Joe!  Whip that horse over the finish line — go Joe, just a few more months before you’re back home in Delaware relaxing.  Joe, you shouldn’t have ever been elected as Senator. You were and are a disgrace.

As for those of you too scared to go outside in public or you have a compromised immune system, please stay home.  For the rest of us, get back to work, live life, and be productive.  The pandemic will remain as long as we stay scared and let it control our lives.

The rotting of America from within continues…

    Ranger Rick,
With respect to your particular sense of word definitions, I take issue with your comment “a pandemic only ceases when those involved finally decide they’ve had enough of staying scared and live in the land of the living.”
A pandemic, by definition, is a disease that affects a wide geographic area and afflicts an exceptionally high proportion of the population. Changing one’s attitude toward a disease outbreak does not end the disease, otherwise we’d have cured every malady known to mankind. Going into a group of people afflicted by said disease, without fear, does not eradicate the disease.
What you might be referring to is the adjustment of Americans’ measures of risk management. When more Americans decide that the risk of the disease is outweighed by the necessity of going out to work, or get a haircut or a manicure, then the FEAR of the disease will abate, but the disease itself will not.
The disease conducts its business according to its terms, not ours.
I’m reminded of an old, old adage. If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.
You can try to coax the fear out of people, but that will not solve the spread of the disease.

      Ms Mandaville:
I may stand corrected… If anyone truly believes this virus is ever going away… they are delusional.
This is here to stay… unlike the vaccines that stopped some earlier diseases. This virus may not be unstoppable. But as Ranger Rick may be saying: How long can a country or state stay locked away? Sooner or later (and later may be the disaster), we once again be productive.
If it wasn’t for the need of money to survive in today’s society, yes one could possibly sustain life locked down to your home and property. Just not possible today.
Yes, we should respect this disease. In no way should one fear it, leading to ruin of the state, country, and finally yourself.
Yes, money my be “the root of all evil.” Sadly no one (state, country or individual) can last very long without it.
With businesses closing, it should be apparent that more will be closing in the future. Many will have no job to return to… how long can anyone reading this live without some form of income?
Everyone today has some form of income and the longer we wait to be productive, the shorter the period that we lose everything and eventually starve.

        Mr. Smit,
I don’t disagree that we have to responsibly open the economy. The key word is responsibly.
And I agree with you that anyone who believes this disease is going away soon is delusional.
My point remains that one cannot eradicate the coronavirus by saying “I’ve had enough! I’m not afraid of this disease and I’m going out everywhere!”
People need to work. People need to make their own decisions whether or not to take the risk of being in crowded situations without taking precautions. There is no law infringing upon the right of human beings to make risky decisions. If one needs to take the chance, it’s one’s right to do so. But one shouldn’t be so naïve as to believe that when a person stops being afraid the pandemic stops. It doesn’t.

    Ms. Mandaville,

When I was a kid, my great-grandfather drove us up north to a place he helped log out in the late 1800’s. He said the long chicken-coop looking building was where those with chickenpox, measles, whooping cough and other maladies were quarenteened from the public until they were well.

Now, the general public is under duress because of a disease from China (why do most flus and viruses come from China?) and has caused states to shut down and ordered most businesses to cease and desist from doing business. Many of these businesses will not recover and shut down and/or declare bankruptcy.

All of this is unnecessary. Those with the Wuhan virus should self quaranteen or get into the hospital if the symptoms persist or worsen.

Everyone else, use common sense; wash your hands, wear a mask, wear gloves, don’t touch your face, etc.

And Govenor Whitmer, quit lying about viewing Confederate and Nazi flags at the demonstrations at the Capitol. I and many others have viewed most of the media coverage without seeing your ghost flags. Anyone with proof of such flags at the capitol, please provide date and station showing these flags. You know if they had been there, it would be lead in news over and over. This type of BS by the governor of flag implications must stop as they are bullshit and everyone viewing the news knows it.
