Ranger Rick: Let’s get back to the business of living

Of the thousands of pages of media stories about Coronavirus (COVID-19), only a few have asked the pertinent questions about the origination of the virus and the distinct look of the virus.

The virus matches another virus (RaTG13 virus genome) with one exception — the “spike” protein that makes the little mushrooms attached to the surface of the virus.  The mushroom “spikes” attack the lungs and other organs, the spikes interlock with the membranes and lets the body of the virus invade cells and destroy them.  Where did the “spike” protein on the virus come from?

A Chinese virologist Shi Zhengli is one of the world’s pre-eminent authorities on the bat coronavirus and reported the 96 percent match with the RaTG13 bat virus.  It is reported Shi has a history of experimenting  with mutated coronaviruses, including combining multiple viruses to change the resulting virus’s capability to infect different species.

How do we know this?  In a 2015 research paper, she and other researchers used a bat virus spike protein that didn’t work on humans, grafted it onto the SARS virus and found that it was then capable of infecting humans while also being resistant to treatment.

It recently has been reported China is destroying evidence of the origins of the virus and any traces of the samples and lab work.  Was this an engineered virus experiment that ran amok, or was this an intentional spread of a pandemic virus to weaken Europe, the United States, and any other country that had infected people returning from China or Chinese visiting other countries?  Is this another form of war without fighting or dropping bombs?

Will we ever know?  I doubt it, but remember this, a communist country is a communist country and the United States and some countries in Europe still treasure their freedoms and capitalistic economies.  We are now essentially shut down because of this pandemic virus.  Will others viruses be unleashed in the future?

Are we giving up our freedoms, or are our leaders willing to turn the Constitution over and demand compliance or else?  For three years we’ve made miraculous advancements in the economy, job creation, and wealth creation.  In three weeks we are almost back to the Obama days.  And all because we are unwilling to take the chance of contracting a virus.

Don’t mistake my intentions here.  We have lost many people, but look at the vast majority of them are people of advanced age and/or in very poor health (diabetes, overweight, heart disease, lung disease, etc.).

Our governor has demanded no power boating, so those of you wanting to go fishing in your bass boat are out of luck.  Or you can row a boat, kayak, canoe, or use a sailboat.  But no powerboats or personal watercraft.  No outside construction work, no roofers, no greenhouses, no landscapers.  People can go into grocery and liquor stores but can’t work a job outside in the fresh air?

If necessary, I don’t think people would be adverse to wearing a mask and gloves to work a job.  But we need to return to work, post haste.  Our economy and mental health is at stake.  Will there be some people who will contract the virus? Possibly.  Just like they contract the flu (which does kill thousands each year), or any other virus.  With enough people being exposed, those not affected will build up antibodies against the virus.  Cloistered at home does nothing but make us lazy and fat or fatter.  Time to get back to work and get moving again.  We are Americans, start acting like it.

For those of you so extremely afraid of this virus, please remember, the Spanish Flu killed millions worldwide.  This pandemic is slowly being beaten by the numbers being shown on TV every night.  True, we aren’t out of the woods yet, but to have your life overturned because you are scared, join the club, there are many just like you.  But that doesn’t stop them every day to do what must be done — the doctors, nurses, and health providers are facing this virus with courage.  It’s time we do the same.

President Trump, please get the country moving again.  Suit up and get in the game of life.  Otherwise you’ll remain afraid to do anything.

The rotting of America from within continues… while China is totally rotten.

I somewhat agree with your Chinese analogy. They have had this viral/chemical warfare capability for many years and isn’t it ironic that they chose this year to launch it on the world. Ironic because Trump took it upon himself to impose tariffs on Chinese imports to “level the playing field” in his words. The economy had steady growth for the past 10 years, yes starting with the Obama administration, and was doing fine until Don the Con decided, by himself, to destroy what had been built previously with his “experiment”. This reminds me of the question a reporter asked him recently; “What metrics are you using to analyze and make decisions regarding covid-19”? His answer? He points to his head and says it’s all up here! Oh my god!!! It shows that this is how he works, off the cuff, straight off the top of his big head with little brain. This man will destroy this country if given 4 more years.

      Mr. O Clausen,
      Sir,
The COVID-19 virus is President Trump’s fault? Somehow he made the Peoples Republic of China release a pandemic? You may want to rethink that one.
      Stay safe.

“This man will destroy this country if given 4 more years.” Are you saying senile Joe is the answer?

      Cheers!!

If what I understand is correct the President can only suggest. Seems our founding fathers never had the faintest idea so many Governors be it because of political differences, or just a need to control. Could demand, through excessive orders trample our freedoms in the name of protecting us.
It matters not whom the President is, was, or will be. Now is the time to get back to work, get the economy going.
The longer we huddle in our homes afraid of dying the easier it will be to destroy us. It is proven that if another pandemic virus hits next year, those accepting mandated loss of certain freedoms will not hesitate but welcome those efforts. The precedent has been set and it will not take another four years.
Many accuse President Trump as being a dictator… what do we call these governors who are responsible for all the unrealistic regulation?
My opinion is let’s get back to work. If you are that afraid you may die… stay locked in your home… Let the many who wish to once again be productive citizens live our lives…
The general consensus of those applauding all this regulation is they can function splendidly without leaving home. So then let the rest of us can resume normal life… unless what you claim is untrue.

So glad Ranger Rick, John Wilkins and Mr. Smit are willing to die for the economy. Perhaps they have significant life insurance policies so their families live comfortably after a COVID-19 vaccine is developed, mass produced and given to the US and world population.

On April 9, President Trump stated he doesn’t believe the US needs widespread testing of individuals before re-starting the economy.

On April 10, a Friday afternoon, the Trump administration sent out new guidelines that employers outside the health care industry won’t be required to record Coronavirus cases among their employees, citing it as a additional burden to business. Employers in health care (like hospitals, nursing homes, clinics), emergency responders and corrections would be required to report COVID-19 to OSHA, but other businesses won’t be required to do so because they would have a difficult time proving the exposure occurred at work. Exceptions would be a widespread outbreak like we are seeing at the Smithfield pork processing facility in Sioux Falls, S.D., where 80 cases of COVID-19 have occurred in the plant that employs 3700.

We know that when the Grand Princess cruise ship that had multiple passengers ill with what was then called coronavirus was finally allowed to land in Oakland, CA, on March 9, all passengers from California were taken to two military bases in the Bay Area, tested and kept there for 14 days, except for those who were so ill they required immediate hospitalization. What the CDC learned was COVID-19 is insidious. There were 18 passengers who tested positive and never showed symptoms. However those same people could unknowingly have infected others although the virus never affected them.

If you all want to back to work, go right ahead. Be aware that you have a better chance of becoming infected with COVID-19 in MI than winning a $100 lottery winner. With President Trump ignoring his own experts about testing everyone and your employers getting a pass on reporting, per new OSHA guidelines, that co-worker could be like those folks off the Grand Princess who were infected and never knew it until they were tested after quarantine.

Bob Traxler and I regularly disagree on multiple issues but when it comes to wearing face masks, wiping down groceries, moving Amazon deliveries from your front porch to a garage without going through your home to let the box sit and disinfect it, he’s spot on. His cautious approach was days ahead of what researchers learned from the 18 passengers who tested positive, but could have easily gone back to work and social gatherings because they felt fine.

A few weeks ago Ranger Rick’s opinion was coronavirus (now known as COVID-19) was overhyped, another H1N1-type flu and an excuse to pick on President Trump. It wasn’t a hoax. Back then he was also questioning why restaurants needed to be closed putting people out of work. Now he’s encouraging the idea it’s time to get back to work. Others seem to be agreeing.

Maybe there will be a toast and “Cheers!” at some wakes if some have their way and rush back to work.

Governor Whitmer has been aggressive, just as the governors of Ohio and Illinois. It’s easier to adjust and relax rules as more data comes out than think we are out of the woods too soon. I won’t be surprised to see Midwest governors do what has happened on both coasts. Better to err on the side of caution.

As of 14 April 2020, there have been 28,000 COVID-19 cases in Michigan.
Those are real numbers. Those were real people. It’s not a hoax. Never was.

    • Harry Smit

      Sir
No I don’t have huge life insurance policies. The truth is, as of three years ago I have none. I am in that group that could very well die because of age and compromised immune system. So yes if I die like I’ve said many times before, my death will come when the God I have faith in wants me.
Many just fail to grasp that with true faith one has no fear of death. Before this pandemic and I assure you after… no one has the ability to forecast what they will die from.
Has anyone really thought of the number of people who because of not working will suffer mental and non recovery financially? Everyone currently working will not miss a payment on their debt unless they choose. Those not working or slowly going bankrupt through loss of their small businesses because they can’t get the promised financial help since the system is slow it really doesn’t matter because they are classified as non-essential.
It’s very easy for those who being isolated for 30,40 60, or 80 days will have no financial burden. It’s their fault they are not essential… just bad planning on their part.
So because they want to return to work out of necessity they are selfish, because someone may die. But those condemning… (we who want to work) are not they the selfish ones also? There are two sides and in this case, it looks like the affluent ones make the rules and the non essentials have no choice but follow.
When it comes to the politics and the pandemic, we are being used. Tested. If you will, how much are we willing to give up in personal freedoms, are we willing to see produce tilled under, milk dumped, food shortages, being unemployed, lose our businesses because they are in some minds non-essential, because you may be non-essential have to rely on the government to survive.
So yes, I want, need to return to work (please do not tell me to find a job at Aldi’s) I like where I work and what I do. It just so happens the employer is classified as non-essential. Which in my mind is asinine. There is no business non-essential when they provide the livelihood for be it one to thousands of employees.
So yes, if my death by returning to work was what God has planned for me I have no fear. I wouldn’t be giving my life for the economy it would be for my survival.

    “Governor Whitmer has been aggressive”

Hmmmmm…………You may buy beer, whiskey & weed however don’t buy paint? Just one example of zero common sense. Can’t wait to hear the defenders on this one. Tell me “some” of the Governors decisions are not politically motivated……….

    Cheers!!
