The pandemic response is ongoing and now everyone is on edge with hand washing, masking, social distancing, etc. I viewed on television fights in stores over booze, toilet paper, food, toilet paper, cigarettes, toilet paper… what is up with toilet paper? There’s enough asses out there fighting over “stuff” when they are worried about wiping, well, you get the idea.
I want to thank all of my fans for the wonderful comments. Evidently I hit a nerve, raised your ire, or just plain peeved you off. Or you like what I think and write about — regardless, keep the comments coming. Just remember, this is an opinion piece, not a research paper. My thanks to the editor in explaining our arrangement. If you don’t understand, read last week article comments.
Last year, the CDC reported 80,000 deaths from the flu or complications from the flu. This economy has been shut down for what, a month now? How many have died from CCC (Communist Chinese Coronavirus), as of this writing approximately 58,000 souls. This must be disappointing to those using the modeling of those with the virus and how many of those died. It was to be higher, much higher, much much higher than what has transpired so far.
So we shut down the economy with the exception of grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations and those business considered “essential.” The stock market responded with a 10,000 point drop, wiping out trillions of dollars. Is your 401K looking like a 201K? Gas is cheap, but we have no place to go. If you owned another residence, say “up north”, until recently you could not escape to the north to enjoy solitude to wait out the virus in peace. Freedom and liberty be damned.
In researching the Spanish flu epidemic from the past century, the sick were in hospitals but were overrun with patients and outside facilities (tents) were erected for patient overflow. The patients outside in the fresh air and sunshine recovered at greater rates than those housed in hospitals. Who said fresh air and sunshine doesn’t slow or kill a virus? Our president said as much a few weeks ago. The experts say the warmer temperatures and sunshine (UV rays) will help kill the virus, but the president is nuts?
I have no doubt about the severity of this virus to those susceptible and realize there are many affected families with those infected, fighting for life, or those who have died. It is tragic. But should life in the United States stop? Look at Sweden. They have the virus there but a very low infection and death rate. There was no shutdown nor any social distancing/masks recommended. People were/are enjoying life, schools and businesses were open, and life goes on. They must feel the “herd” infection and resulting building immunity is better than fighting it the way we are.
I know there are many who are deathly afraid of contracting the virus. To those folks; please stay at home and don’t come out until you feel safe. But remember, fear is stifling and what will you do to get back to life as you knew it before the virus? Wearing of a mask and washing your hands regularly will help but will your fear overwhelm you?
We are Americans. We work. We love our families and friends. Some join the military, shipped off to war, never knowing if they will return. If you think this virus is worse than the possibility of not returning from war, I think you are giving this virus too much weight. Should we be concerned – absolutely! Should we be cowering in the corner Never!
To those of you who want to only believe the virus origination from a “wet market” and the virus crossing from animal to human, realize where that theory came from – the WHO (World Health Organization) and their communist loving administration. They are shills for the CCP (Chinese Communist Party). There is more and more evidence and experts who believe this is a virus created in a laboratory. What are the real numbers of afflicted and dead in China? We’ll never know the real numbers. China never tells the truth, that is their way.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer needs to get the state moving again. I would encourage her to open up most of Michigan’s economy with the exception of the counties within the Detroit metro and surrounding areas affected by the large amounts of infected and deceased people. Of course, Detroit is an area with an influx of people and citizens returning from China. Detroit is the overwhelming “hot” area for the virus.
Don’t make the remainder of the state a wasteland. Many of the businesses will never recover and cease to exist. Bars and restaurants have been hard hit. Construction jobs had been halted and how many additional business are affected by the halting construction? Farmers are having a hard time moving livestock because processing plants being shut or slowed down by workers contracting the virus.
Sometimes it is time to act and not worry about woulda, shoulda, coulda. Just do it!
The rotting of America from within continues… But China is rotten to the core.

Another excellent article. I’m not a doomsday person…but looking at the way things are heading. I truly hope our economy and supply chain can recover as quickly as it has been stopped.
There seems to be very little thought as to what has happened to our food chain .
It’s not because of lack of product it’s the lack of being able to process it for distribution to the consumer.
If you really have to fear something…just take a minute to analyze this. The dairy industry has slowly been losing dairy farms, currently they are dumping milk because it can not be processed. Meat production is slowed animals are disposed of ..Vegetables are being plowed under for lack of processing since the market has shrunk. We have no idea how our fruit and grain crops will fair….but currently it doesn’t look good.
Many businesses will not open since they are going bankrupt….restaurants will likely be the hardest hit. Will our education system rebound??? Probably, but it may look different depends what social distancing and wearing PPE may still be required. The list can go on.
Many may not believe that as the economy goes so does the production of food, processing, and distribution to consumers.
So the only fear I have is the possibility of losing one of the three important idems in habit ( food. Water, shelter) with out adequate availability to any of those survival will be a challenge
Trying to figure out what you are saying. Are you happy 80,000 died from the flu ina year? Are you sad that ONLY 58,000 have died from the virus in 3 months? Even with the shut down and shut in 58,000 have died in 3 months. Are you happy that the 58,000 have died to make those who predicted more are wrong? What are you trying to say?
