Our political differences or similarities can be concluded in two ways: not Democrat or Republican, but big government vs. small government, and wishful-thinking and reality.
It is reality the Republicans are of two factions now – Remocrats (establishment Republicans and power hungry statists who have more in common with Democrats than other Republicans), and what I will label Republicans, with decidedly conservative principles and viewpoint. It is interesting to watch Congress try to wrangle with all the factions to get agreement to get legislation through the two chambers to the president’s desk for signing into law.
Most excruciating to view is the struggle between Americans in the immigrant debate and “sanctuary cities” – elected officials are vowing to not cooperate with legal authorities for the apprehension of illegal immigrant convicts, thugs and criminals. There is no action that I’ve heard nor has it been reported that illegal immigrants doing nothing illegal (with exception of coming here undocumented or overstaying a visa) — are being arrested nor are there plans to do so in the future. They are here to make a better life for themselves and their families. I don’t think anyone has a problem with that idea, but in the effort to get here by not going through legal channels through the Immigration Department, they are putting themselves and families in jeopardy because of unlawful entry.
Mayor Virg Bernaro of Lansing proudly announced not long ago that Lansing would be a “sanctuary city.” Once the threat of federal funds being withheld could become reality, he quickly backpedaled after a huge wave of pressure came from those depending on federal funds to do business in Lansing. All the “sanctuary cities” should take note, the federal government is the big hammer, and will and must withhold funds if the cities will not abide by federal laws, including those on immigration. It is a stark contrast to those who think all borders should remain open.
If you understand the politics of this debacle, sanctuary cities overwhelmingly are governed by Democrats, those with open arms and open wallets with your tax money to support illegals through state, county, and city services; children to attend and stress local schools with unplanned school population explosion, medical facilities stressed with more patients, lowering wages with cheap labor, and welcoming politicians wanting more votes. Do the reasons for the fall of Rome now become the reasons for the fall of America?
We must build a wall, and hopefully will not only have a wall, but a strong and vigilant immigration policy, strong Immigration Department, and enforcement arm to control the flood of illegals into this country.
The illegals we find with criminal records should be deported post-haste and if found again in the country illegally, be sent to a state that has judges rejecting the immigration policy President Trump has signed into law and rejected by appellate courts. Hawaii comes to mind for the one judge, and Hawaii can deal with them by their judge’s decision. Good luck with that, Hawaii! Oh, and no federal assistance for illegals, the state owns the incarceration expenses.
The rotting of America from within continues…
