The once proud party of Jackson, Kennedy and Clinton is spinning its wheels. Last week, Governor Andrew Cuomo, the son of the orator and somewhat sensible Gov. Mario Cuomo, said, “We’re not going to make America great again. It was never that great.”
Gov. Cuomo, in a rare insight with voicing what he was really thinking instead of staying with political speak, spoke in front of supporters in a bill signing event in New York. Even the overwhelming audience members, undoubtedly supporters and Democrats, audibly gasped as such a political faux pas.
I think the son of the late Gov. of New York, Mario the Pious, was right on. He was just making public what the majority of the Democrat Party are thinking — America sucks, err, ah, isn’t that great and never was. Now it is finally out there what the party actually thinks of a country that is full of “deplorables” who would vote Trump in as president. They are still seething from him snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory for Queen Hillary, it was so close but, but — so far away!
Can you imagine a country with another four years of President Barack Obama initiatives and directives? No growth, no new jobs, bowing to every country’s leader and showing the world the United States was not the leader of the free world and they should be glad of it! As President Obama indicated, we should model Britain in accepting a lesser role in the world.
Now we have to hear John Brennan, former head of the CIA, former voter for a communist for President (Gus Hall) in 1976, and very angry and unsuccessful in kicking President Donald Trump out of the White House. He was a terrible selection as the head of the CIA, but President Obama surrounded himself with radicals in his cabinet, bordering on Marxism in power. Brennan was found to be a liar and bungled more investigations and was never removed. But he was a good toady for President Obama.
I pat myself on the back because Sen. Obama was a great speaker (with a teleprompter) and said the right things on the campaign trail, but anyone who took a few hours and checked up on his background would find many disturbing details. But the media wanted this guy, so they sure weren’t going to delve into his past in any detail.
Everyone should have been suspicious when he wouldn’t release his birth certificate or college records (they are still sealed). It seems as though he was in Pepperdine, Columbia and Harvard, but many from those years he says he was in attendance don’t remember him. Hmm! His upbringing was surrounded by radicals and Marxists/Communists.
His friends were radical Bill Ayers (co-founder of the Weather Underground) and Bernadine Dorn, you know, someone in the neighborhood who just happened to open their house for a political “get to know you” party. I’m sure being a member of the “Choom Gang” in Hawaii, he and old Bill probably fired up the bong and had a few puffs with supporters.
Well, let’s talk about more pressing issues. Chicago. Shootings. Woundings. Deaths. Where is the mayor? Where are the police — evidently not present on the streets where these shootings take place! And how can these shootings happen when no guns are allowed in Chicago? I guess criminals don’t care about laws (or “gun free zones” (what a stupid, idiotic idea)).
When will the Illinois National Guard be called up to patrol the streets of the turf wars by gangs? When will martial law be declared and all houses searched for guns and drugs in the area where these shootings have taken place? Where is stop and frisk when it is needed? I know, I know; what about their rights? They lost them when people are being mowed down every day in this perpetual war zone, many of them innocent bystanders and having no way to defend themselves.
Just to let the haters of lovable fuzzball Ranger Rick and my pal Army Bob, the headlines of our submissions are usually not our own, the editor and manager of the website David Young selects the title, as he has explained in his responses early in my submissions that he changed the headline. I no longer title my own work.
If you don’t like the title of the article, contact Mr. Young. We know some of you must like the content, because both of us together kick the other contributors in viewership. Must be the majority of the readers agree with our opinions and those who don’t print our articles and pin them on the dart board and start sticking holes in our work. So be it. Happy darting!
And Ranger Rick and Army Bob are both veterans and damn proud of it, and we both have concealed carry permits and know how to use our weapons. No, we aren’t afraid of crime, but we are like Boy Scouts — Always Prepared! We never wish to use weapons, but will do so if necessary to defend ourselves and our loved ones.
And Basura and Couchman: I never carry while at work, but it is not far away and I can access it if needed. I am in violation of company rules, tough! My company would be happy to lose a few to a person bent on creating evil as long as they followed the rules (as long as it wasn’t one of them creating the rules!); I’m only responsible for me and my loved ones. They can find their own hiding place once the shooting starts. If it ever did happen, they would be the first to change the rules and get concealed permits. What hypocrites!
The rotting of America from within continues…
Rick, let’s call a spade a spade. Please pull your head out of the sand and admit that Trump is a self serving, lying, embarrassment to the human race, treasonous criminal
If you voted for him because you didn’t want a Democrat in office, that’s fine. If you voted for him because you didn’t want a woman, (Hillary) in office, that’s fine too. But, if you voted for him because you believed he would be good for America, then you need to take a step back and re-evaluate your choices. Marko Rubio would have been a better choice than Trump!
I agree with you on one thing, our country is rotting from within, within the White House! Stay tuned there is more to come than the five convicts from his cabinet that will be going to prison.
Amazing, Rick! I hope you wrote this before yesterday, when the former Trump Campaign Manager was convicted by trial of eight felonies, and the former personal lawyer for Trump was convicted by plea of eight other felonies, implicating Trump (who received the benefit of the crimes pertaining to election interference). Will Republicans begin to put country before party? It’s been a while since they have.
I feel very sad when I read these rants you go on, Rick. You are so sure the country is rotting from within that you are consumed by that perceived odor in everything you write about.
There are certain truths on which many of us apparent foes agree. Politicians can be among the worst humans in terms of their morality, regardless of party. But there are also terrific politicians, particularly Dems, whom you seem to avoid thinking about (George McGovern, Eugene McCarthy, for example).
You dwell on those issues which have been used to instill deep fear in the American public (the need to carry concealed because there are bad guys with guns around every corner and behind every tree), lies about immigrants, legal and illegal, and on and on and on.
I am dismayed by the broad brushes you use to describe anyone you take issue with, and I’m a little annoyed that you drag Army Bob into your rants, implying that he agrees with everything you say. (I’d guess he might at least take issue with your tone, if not your inclusion in the negativity. But I cannot speak for Bob.)
I hope that you are paying attention to the events coming out of the courts in Washington and Virginia, and are noting that there is a rotting within the current administration that has quite a malodorous stink about it, which will probably get worse before it gets better.
How about we look for common ground on which to build a better America than exists today? It was once a shinier version of what it’s become, and we could reclaim it if we stopped whining and actually did something about it.
Each of us can start in our own back yards.
You in?
I read your and Army Bob’s “articles” strictly for comedy relief. What size tinfoil hat do you wear when you write this BS?
I think you and Trumpy Bear are going down together.
Ostriches are reportedly excited about yesterday’s events, according to Andy Borowitz, of “New Yorker”. The big birds are running around throughout Africa, reveling, “with loud squawking and indiscriminate mating”. Paul Manafort’s conviction of multiple felonies, and his likely prison incarceration should put an end to his purchases of ostrich leather. Speaking of ostriches, it’s hard not to wonder: who will be putting their heads in the sand? A few guesses: Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Mike Pence, Devin Nunes, Dana Rohrback, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Kellyanne Conway, Bill Schutte, and let’s not forget 72nd District Rep. Steve Johnson. Fox “News” Network, too, as per usual. Fake news, don’t you know? I agree with you and Jon: America does seem to be rotting from within.
Mr. Basura,
Sir,
Ostriches do not hide their heads in the sand, they nest underground and turn their eggs from time to time. TDS makes folks say strange things why the mating of ostriches is important is beyond most.
Mr. Traxler: Thanks for the info on ostriches. I thought that old canard was a little suspect. The poor attempt at humor referred to Manafort’s fondness for costly ostrich leather sports coats, and the joke is that the big birds are thrilled to see a reduction in consumers of their beautiful tanned hides.
All you do is whine about Obama. Stock market went up 10,000 points between 2009 and 2016, Millions of jobs created. Unemployment went down from 13% to 4,5% . Yet all you do is whine, whine, whine about how terrible Obama was. Worry about the guy in the White House now who wouldn’t know the truth if it bit him in the butt. Worry about how he is destroying the country. Get over Obama, he is done and gone. Worry about the future of the USA.
Ranger Rick
Holy Catfish, you don’t need a very large spoon to stir the pot.
You will surely have your readership and fellow journalists talking to themselves soon.
“Ya gotta” love a great rant..keep up the excellent work …
There is a lot of anger with a plethora of misinformation and projection in this opinion piece. National Guard rolling into Chicago? Wow.
Governor Andrew Cuomo’s remark will go down as the words that killed any chance he had for elective office beyond the NY governorship. The last time I recall presidential ambition being ended like that was Howard Dean’s scream in Iowa in January 2004. As a Michigan resident I thought it was a poor way to express a view, but I can’t vote for him anyway.
I’m guessing Rick never spoke to a Harvard Law grad. If he had he would know it’s a highly competitive admission process that requires letters of recommendation from undergraduate professors and would be aware of the fact one can’t be selected to be elected president of The Harvard Law Review in absentia. I have no idea where Rick came up with the myth President Barack Obama isn’t remembered at Pepperdine, Columbia or Harvard Law unless you believe numerous Columbia professors and Harvard Law classmates interviewed were all actors.
Since President Obama won two terms and wasn’t eligible for a third term, we can only go back to the economy he inherited and where that economy was when he left. Those of us who didn’t listen to the doom and gloom conservative pundits were rewarded with our 401Ks being in a lot better shape in October 2016 than they were in January 2009. We saw that dastardly CIA Director John Brennan lead the intelligence teams that found Osama bin Laden, coordinated the intelligence reports that sent the USN Seal teams to the bin Laden compound in Pakistan and bin Laden’s demise. Also saw laws passed that allowed our children to be covered on our family health insurance plans until they were 26 so they didn’t have to buy poor health care policies or go without and hope nothing bad happened.
President Obama used teleprompters as did Presidents Reagan, GHW Bush, Clinton, GW Bush (sometimes) and even current President Trump. Maybe someone can explain why using teleprompters is bad.
As a USN vet, I’m as proud of my service as Rick is are of his, but I have no clue why he thought he needed to include a mention in this opinion. If you think you need a CCP for your family’s safety then you live a tough part of Allegan County I’ve never visited.
And so it goes.
Comments like Harry Smit supporting hatred and anger are most of problem.
Further proof of complete ignorance by Army Bob. Ostriches do not nest underground. They do not dig tunnels or caves to nest in. They nest ON the ground. Army Bob cannot even get those simple facts in his head. Time to put him on ignore with his senseless rantings.
Mr. Beck,
They dig a hole to nest in. never ever stated they tunnel or use caves.
My momma always said, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.”
I miss my momma.
I agree with Walt. I miss my momma.
Momma would also say that you can learn something even from those you don’t agree with. All you need do is open your ears and listen between the lines.
Understanding requires work, and it requires one to walk in the other’s shoes.
You start your commentary by quoting out of context and it goes downhill from there. Spreading misinformation won’t change the mistake in the White House. When you stand with Trump it’s easy to tell where the smell is coming from. This fish is rotten from the head down and no redirection will change the damage he is doing. If you hope to save any credibility at all you should stick to facts and forget the echo chamber within the party. That approach has destroyed so many already as well intended lies continue to encounter reality. Think for yourself, do a little research and stop drinking the Kool-aid.
