As a parent, you try to do everything possible to make it easier for your offspring to be the best they can be, whether that be after high school graduation they want to work, go to college, serve their country in the military forces or Peace Corps, or leave the state and not be heard from for years.
You hope the last option isn’t desired by your precious child, but you really, really want them to go to college and become a successful student, earn a degree, and work in the job field for which they were trained. Normally, that is encouraging your child to become the best they can be in high school so they can place well enough with grades, testing, and extra-curricular activities, they are noticed by college admissions for their hard work and rewarded with an invitation of acceptance to become a student at the college of their choice.
Last week, we saw what we knew was happening, hoped it wasn’t, but now have proof that it has and is happening in colleges across the country. They focused on elite Ivy League or highly rated colleges (like USC and Stanford) and those in the media trying to help their helpless snowflakes become students in those universities through corrupt methods.
Is this really news? The upper echelon, 1% of the population, the wealthy and influential; they paid money to get their children in elite colleges? Tell me it isn’t so! Are you reading this and thinking “I thought everyone had a chance to become a student based on merit?”
Right now the focus is on Mr. Singer, the person accused of manipulating and bribing officials/coaches; and a few celebrities and their children. We know show business people have money and influence. But we should really be concerned with public officials; judges, lawyers and others considered part of the justice system to see if they also used this way to get their children into colleges of their choice. And if found, they be tried and convicted, and place an extreme sentence on each because they know better but still believed they were above the law.
But really, is this new news? This has been going on since colleges had admission offices established to winnow out the best of the best to attend their hallowed halls of education. And allowing any type of exceptions to be allowed without equal competition and selecting only those top performers without regard to race, sex, sexual orientation, physical handicap, or any other designation should be forbidden. That would end any program to allow those undeserving to be college students at those elite colleges and universities. Truly, the best of the best would be educated in those universities.
Those desiring to attend college have a multitude of colleges/schools to attend – community college, state universities, private colleges, trade schools, and specific training institutions in specialties. Just because you can’t attend Harvard or Yale because you don’t have the grades doesn’t mean you can’t attend college. But if you had your heart set on Harvard or Yale and you don’t have the credentials to attend, suck it up buttercup.
Personally, I think the Harvard and Yale colleges are vastly over-rated and many of the state supported universities graduate students that could compete with any student from either university. The “ring knockers” tend to support each other and their offspring, kind of like a club the “normal” people can’t join. I’ve knocked heads with both Harvard and Yale graduates and found them to be vacant of any original thought or outstanding thinking.
It would be interesting to see Malia Obama, Chelsea Clinton, Ivanka Trump, and other children of politicians to see how they got into the elite colleges they attended. Was there just a letter of acceptance by any college they desired to attend or were there grade and entrance exam testing involved? Would you be surprised if they were just accepted based on name? Would that be unfair?
And the most obvious hypocrite in this whole affair was Senator Elizabeth (Pocahontas) Warren. When asked if she had sympathy for those involved in the college debacle, she replied with an “O” (zero) with thumb and forefinger. This response is rich, since she was given a professor job with prior experience at other law schools, but at Harvard, they described her as a Native American because of what she put on her application. She is not Native American, as has been proven by her own admission of DNA testing.
Also, President Barack Obama sealed his college records so nobody could access them, reportedly spending millions to keep them sealed. What has he got to hide? Maybe given aid as a foreign student from Indonesia? Interesting question evidently with no answer, but his fear of disclosure of college records speaks volumes. I guess he wasn’t an “open book” like he claims he was.
President Donald Trump was elected because he hit the hot buttons many Americans were concerned about – elitism was one thing Trump hit on and he was absolutely right. Some people are more privileged than you and I. The hard work and sweat equity only gets you so far, after that, money talks and bullshit walks!
The rotting of America from within continues…
Are you thinking Trump got into Wharton School of Business on merit?
