Ranger Rick Art_7_0_0Last week, I viewed a Miami news article about a young man burglarizing a house and setting off the alarm. This was the second recent break-in. The female homeowner, being alerted by her home security system, returned home when 17-year-old Trevon Johnson was shot and killed by the 54-year-old homeowner when she saw him climbing out a window in her home.

That incident, tragic as it was; the following reaction to the killing by relatives is as tragic, if not more so, because their attitudes are reflected in his poor and illegal behavior, and probably helped in hastening his early death.

The fact that the teen was leaving the home when he was shot angered his relatives. It was noted by police there was evidence of a struggle between the intruder and homeowner before the pistol was discharged. Trevon’s sister, Nautika Harris, wanted to know why her brother was shot as he was leaving the house:

“It’s no reason she should have waited until I think he walked out the yard to try to shoot him. If she called the police already, why would she shoot him?”

The most disturbing part of the whole interview:

She also said that the homeowner should have tried to understand why he was breaking into her home.

“You have to look at it from every child’s point of view that was raised in the hood. You have to understand… how he gonna get his money to have clothes to go to school? You have to look at it from his point-of-view.”

Huh? What? Is that really why he broke into the dwelling? Really? Money for school clothes?

I agree, especially in Miami (or Detroit, or Chicago, or most large cities) with the person that commented upon the article why she shot the kid:

“After you call the cops, order a pizza and see which one arrives first.” Why do people legally carry weapons to protect themselves and their property? Because a cop is too heavy.

In her case, I’m sure the pizza would arrive first.

The “point-of-view” should be, you break into a house, be prepared to get shot or at least meet resistance – you do so at your own peril.

Is this a tragedy? No doubt. When will it end? Sadly, probably never. When attitudes like the parents and family condone illegal behavior and then they decry the result, I have no sympathy for them or theirs.

If you don’t own a weapon, you may want to reconsider. If you don’t want to own a weapon, don’t count on the rescue by police before you are assaulted or killed. And if you are willing to own a weapon, please, get properly trained. If you obtain a concealed weapons permit, you’ll get the training. If you just have a permit to own, it is up to you to get the proper safety training on how to handle weapons.

And for you liberals who think everything is wonderful, it couldn’t happen here, the police will protect me; think about the homeowner mentioned above, she probably didn’t think she’d have to use a weapon either.

The rotting of America from within continues….
