The record-breaking Wayland boys’ bowling team came back down to earth Tuesday in a 23.5 to 6.5 loss to Hudsonville Unity Christian.

The Wildcats in the last week have broken three school records:

• #1 on 12/16/17: Baker game at Cedar Springs Invitational 231 (Alex Marble, Hunter Osborn, Jordan Peters, Bryan Franck, Dylan Roberts, and Dillon Smith)

• #2 on 12/18/17: Against Zeeland East/West Team Game 1033 (Alex Marble, Jordan Peters, Bryan Franck, Dylan Roberts, and Dillon Smith)

• #3 on 12/18/17: Against Zeeland East/West Team 2-Game Series 1946 (Alex Marble, Jordan Peters, Bryan Franck, Dylan Roberts, and Dillon Smith)

The Wildcats got off to a good start against Hudsonville Unity by taking the first Baker game 169-168.

“I had emphasized how important it was to jump out to a quick start on the Baker games,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. “Even though we had just squeaked that game out, it was right were I wanted the team to be.”

Unfortunately during the second Baker, the ‘Cats were doomed by three missed easy spares in a row and lost that match 188-154.

Dylan Roberts took both his points in the individual matches with scores of 201 and 168.

Even though Wayland anchor, Dillon Smith had a 199 game, the Crusaders’ anchor bowler rolled a 217.

Both individual match scores weren’t bad, as the Wildcats rolled 802 and 796 as a team. Unfortunately, they just weren’t enough to beat the other team.

“Unity Christian boys’ team is much stronger than they have been in the past couple of years,” Miklusicak remarked. “They still have to bowl us on ‘our turf’ at Airport Lanes and we will be waiting for them!”
