Tom Miller of Moline struck again with his outdoor thermometer, showing everybody “how cold was it?” He indicated this device was reporting 12 degrees below zero, which weather prognosticators said was a new record low for Feb. 15. The temps were supposed to rise to a balmy five degrees for a high. The frigid temperatures followed a day of blowing and drifting that caused massive visibility problems for motorists and resulted in numerous traffic crashes 9n West Michigan. Leighton Township firefighters had to endure the misery Saturday night and into early Sunday morning while fighting a chimney fire.
