Recount confirms County Prosecutor’s re-election

Myrene Koch

The re-election of Allegan County Prosecutor Myrene Koch has been confirmed by recount.

Both Koch and Republican primary challenger Mike Villar picked up one more vote in the recount, making the final tally showing a separation of 17 votes. Villar had requested the recount because the results were close and he had concerns about procedures in Fillmore Township and four others that couldn’t be recounted.

Final recount totals show 8,868 votes for Koch and 8,851 for Villar.

The two also ran for the office in 2018 because of the abrupt retirement of Circuit Judge Kevin Kronin and appointment of Prosecutor Roberts Kengis to succeed him. Koch will run unopposed in the November general election.

MLive.com has reported that Villar took issue with the way the recount was handled and said he plans to file a complaint with the Michigan Bureau of Elections.
