80th District State Rep. Cindy Gamrat (R-Plainwell), who represents a large part of Allegan County, has been told she is no no longer welcome at Republican closed-door caucus meeting after posting criticism on Facebook.

Gamrat, who was first elected to her post last November, succeeding the term-limited Bob Genetski, also is seeking the post of Republican National Committeewoman.

Gamrat posted a comment on Facebook last week reporting that House Speaker Kevin Cotter told her that her post violated the “sanctity of the caucus.”

Gamrat made the Facebook post last Thursday after a Wednesday budget workshop, about which she expressed frustration after the subcommittee’s budget review for not achieving “free-market” solutions when the starting point is “more and more government programs being funded.”

Gamrat said she did not reveal anything confidential from the meeting.

According to WOOD-TV Channel 8, Cotter spokesman Gideon D’Assandro says he can’t confirm Gamrat’s expulsion, saying “what happens in caucus stays in caucus.”

Gamrat represents Martin, Watson and Hopkins townships in Lansing. She is a member of the Allegan County Tea Party.
