The Restore Freedom Initiative Petition Family & Friends group is putting together an Independence Day parade in Dorr, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

A Restore Freedom spokesperson posted on Facebook, “We just heard the news that the governor’s COVID-19 response has officially ruined the 4th of July festivities for the Dorr community.

“Many events were planned over these four days, but now the business owners who were sponsoring the event have been threatened with tickets and other consequences. I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of our governor’s illegal and unconstitutional executive orders depriving us of our rights!

“It’s time to take our state back! So join me for an impromptu Restore Freedom Initiative 4th of July parade, where we are going to exercise our First Amendment rights to free speech and to petition our government for a redress of grievances. Come out with your American signage and shirts, bring your friends and family, and sign our petition to Restore Freedom In Michigan by constitutional amendment.

“We’re going to save our 4th of July freedom celebrations, take back our state, and restore freedom once and for all!”

Parade lineup will begin at 9:30 with the parade starting at 10 a.m. The same parade route that was updated and posted by the original organizers earlier this week will be used.

Who will be doing traffic control. Not fire dept, not police I am thinking. So they will illegally shut down the roads themselves somehow? Do they have a permit to do so? I doubt it. Hopefully they get arrested.

Mr. Miller Sir, Did you say the same of the BLM protest in GR? As you say "Hopefully they get arrested" for what folks on the left have done every day with no arrests for the last number of weeks. our Governor opened this box up with the BLM protests all over the State cheered and condoned, time for fairness.

Take the state from whom or what? Looks like another manufactured outrage like we saw in March when you couldn’t buy seeds. Well, you couldn’t unless you went to the local hardware or big box home improvement store. Maybe there is a post parade meeting ignoring all suggested guidelines. No masks, no distancing with a lot of backslapping and handshakes. Dorr can make national headlines like in East Lansing’s Harper’s Restaurant and Brewpub. Public health be damned.

Good for them, if it's safe to protest, it's safe to celebrate. People can decide for themselves if they feel safe attending. I wish them the best.
