Retired beautician Norma Punches dies at age 84

Norma Joy Punches died at Wings Home in Allegan Thursday, July 22.

The daughter of the late Harry and Irene (Beck) Commons, she was a woman of many talents and could out work the best of them. During her younger years she he developed her strong work ethic and drive during her time at the family owned and operated Punches Meat Market of Hopkins.

After high school, Norma would go on to work many jobs including as a telephone operator, an employee at Crescent Pipe, Pamida, Shopko, assisting many years at the Allegan County Fair, and for the election board at the Allegan Township Hall.

Norma also received her beautician license and started her own hair salon in Allegan for 20 years.

Norma loved playing golf and being out at the Cheshire course. She also enjoyed spending time by the water with family and friends.

Norma is survived by her two children Anita (Jerry) Lavin, and Brian (Dawn) Punches; three siblings Hazel Polityka, Dennis (Lois) Commons, and Gale Bleeker; four grandchildren Ashley (Kevin) Boyles, Jared (Becca) Haas, Mitchell (Katie) Punches, and Jordan (Steven) Punches; three step grandchildren Jennifer (Michael) LoPresti, Douglas (Nichol) Lavin, and Nicholas (Jessica) Lavin; four great grandchildren Peyton Haas, Jace Boyles, Tanner Punches, and Sawyer Punches; and two step-great grandchildren Ava LoPresti, and Carter Lavin.
