A retirement party is being planned for former Wayland Mayor Tim Bala from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at the VFW Post, 735 S, Main St.

Bala chose not to seek another two-year in the Nov. 8 general election. He had served as mayor for 14 years, or seven two-year terms, making him the city’s longest serving since it became a city in 1967.

Bala was challenged at the ballot box only twice after he first was elected in 2008.

He was succeeded by Wayland’s first female mayor, Jennifer Antel, who had been mayor pro tem for many years.

Cake and refreshments will be provided.
