
All-star catcher Lyla Reynolds drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Hopkins softball team past Plainwell 11-0 Friday and Madison Schwartz sparked a second game 11-3 victory with four hits in the nightcap.
Reynolds drilled a two-run home run to center field in the second inning, scoring two, doubled in the first scoring one, and doubled in the third scoring one.
The Vikings scored six runs in the first inning on the way to victory. Ava Vanderkolk tripled, scoring one run, Reynolds doubled, scoring one run, Hannah Brinks singled, scoring one run, MaKenna Funk singled, scoring one run, Calleigh Washburn singled, scoring one run, and an error scored the other run..
Hopkins added to its early lead in the bottom of the third after Reynolds doubled down the left field line, and Brinks singled down the left field line, both scoring one run.
Brinks began the game on the mound for the Vikings. She allowed three hits and no runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking none.
Hopkins accumulated 15 hits in the game. Brinks and Reynolds were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits. Cami Hibma, Vanderkolk, and Kelsey Burgess each collected multiple hits . Madison Schwartz stole two bases and Hopkins came up with up four stolen bases for the game.
Madison Schwartz collected four hits in four at bats, as Hopkins Varsity Vikings defeated Plainwell in game two. Schwartz tripled in the fourth inning, singled in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the second inning.
Hopkins got on the board in the top of the first inning after Reynolds doubled down the right field line, and MaKenna Funk grounded out, each scoring one run.
The Vikings scored five runs on five hits in the top of the fourth inning. Schwartz tripled, scoring one run, Ava Vanderkolk singled, scoring another, Reynolds homered to center field, scoring two runs, and Funk tripled, scoring one run.
Gracie Stallard stepped into the pitching circle first for Hopkins Varsity Vikings. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and three runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking one.
Hopkins piled up 13 hits in the game. Calleigh Washburn and Vanderkolk each collected multiple hits.
Hopkins will travel to Wyoming for its next game on Monday.
