Rob Hamly resigned the head varsity baseball coaching position today to take an assistant’s post at Calvin College.
Hamly guided the Wildcats to an 8-22 overall record last spring in his first and only season.
A 1996 graduate of Caledonia High School and graduate of Eastern Michigan University, where he was a letter-winning pitcher, he grew up close to the Wayland, Dorr and Moline areas. He earned a bachelor’s degree in science with a major in secondary social studies and a minor in history at EMU and since then has taught junior high social studies at Jenison Junior High.
Prior to becoming the head varsity coach at Wayland Union he was with the Jenison baseball program for six seasons and he coached two seasons as varsity assistant at South Lyon High School. He and his wife, Kira, live in Grand Rapids and have a son, Robbie Jack.
Hamly succeeded Trenton Wilcox, who left to become athletic director at Carson City.
At Jenison, he assisted at the junior varsity level and managed the off-season pitching and arm training program. He became a staff member at the senior high for the 2013-2014 school year.
