Rob Hamly has been announced as the next varsity baseball coach at Wayland Union High School.
Hamly, who succeeds Trenton Wilcox, who left to become athletic director at Carson City, has spent the last six seasons coaching in the Jenison baseball program. A 2006 Caledonia High School graduate, and continued his baseball playing career at Eastern Michigan University, earning a varsity letter as a pitcher.
He earned his undergraduate in social studies at EMU, with a minor in history. Hamly took his love for the game to South Lyon High School where he was the assistant varsity coach for the Lions for two seasons. From South Lyon, he began instructing West Michigan athletes at Elite Baseball and Softball Academy, where he coached one of the 18 and under travel teams and gave individual hitting and pitching instruction.
At Jenison, he has assisted at the junior varsity level and has managed the off-season pitching and arm training program. He became a staff member at the senior high for the 2013-2014 school year.
This past July he was married to his wife, Kira. When he’s not coaching he enjoys fishing, hunting, working out, and relaxing with friends and family. He currently resides in Grand Rapids.
