The on-again, off-again relationship between Ron Kobish and Wayland city government is off again.
Kobish, in a statement read Monday night by Mayor Tim Bala, announced his resignation as a member of the City Council.
Kobish started his local public service on the Planning Commission in 2006 and was elected to City Council in 2008. After being re-elected in 2010, he lost his second re-election bid in 2012 and returned to the Planning Commission. He was made chairman of that body in February 2014 and sought and won his third term on the City Council last November.
Kobish also has been affiliated with the Wayland Ambulance Board, and has volunteered time to help the Michigan Main Street program.
His education includes high school, some college and work degree of management, Sean Delaney Interpersonal Communications Training Course, Dale Carnegie Leadership Training Course and MML training. He is a general manager for McDonald’s.
“I’m proud to serve Wayland and its residents with integrity,” Kobish said. “I have always felt that when you love the town, city or village that has done so much for you, that you have to give back.
Kobish most recently also had been a member of the Parks Committee and had expressed serious interest in the rails to trails project for the interurban.
He and his wife, Kim, are moving to the City Auburn Hills, where he will take a new job.
Kobish’s last meeting will be Monday, March 16, and his resignation is effective Tuesday, March 17.
The mayor, with advice and consent of the City Council, will appoint his successor until the November 2015 election, at which time the remainder of his two-year term, expiring in November 2016, will be filled by election.
