EDITOR’S NOTE: The trucks have been removed and now are located on a vacant lot on Dahlia Street, across from the K & M dealership in Leighton Township.

Speculation that K & M Chrysler Dodge Jeep may move from its location at 3611 N. Main St. continues, but the car dealership has been ordered to remove its Dodge trucks parked on the east side of Reno Drive.

Meanwhile, Lori Castello of Professional Code Inspections, confirmed that the property owner, A & R Development, has submitted an application for rezoning, from industrial to B-3, which would accommodate a car, truck and SUV dealership. However, speaking at the Wayland City Planning Commission meeting Tuesday night, she cautioned against expecting what may appear to be obvious.

K & M last year took over the former Wayland Chrysler Dodge dealership, causing many to speculate whether it will move to a more visible location. On Reno Drive, it would be visible from the U.S.-131 expressway and across the street from the new carpenters’ and millwrights’ training center that will open officially next month.

A & R Devlopment is expected to bring its request forward at the Planning Commission meeting Tuesday, April 9. Castello said it’s possible discussion also will include site plan review and a special use permit request. B-3 is the same zoning for the training center and for General RV on the other side of Reno Drive.

In other business at its meeting Tuesday evening, Planning Commissioners:

• Gave their blessing to the site plans submitted on the Village Green Apartment complex, with 124 units near the corner of Oak and Forrest streets.

Project engineer Mike Baker of Nederveld & Associates, who first submitted proposals last July, noted that plans now call for moving the site for a community building and a detention stormwater pond.

“It looks great to me,” commented Commissioner Ryan Martin before the unanimous vote was taken.

• Approved a special use permit request from Rebecca Harwood to establish a group day care center at 308 Lorene St. The site until now has been for one to six clients as a family day care and now it can accommodate as many as 12.

• Appointed Commissioner Gary Ragan to represent the commission on a newly-established Redevelopment Ready Committee, but only if it doesn’t conflict with his schedule. Other members are Jennifer Antel from the City Council, City Manager Joshua Eggleston, Main Street Manager Ingrid Miller and Brian Sweebe from the Downtown Development Authority.
