The Wayland girls’ cross country team took 10th place Saturday in the Otsego Bulldog Invitational, which included 19 teams.

East Grand Rapids, another O-K Gold Conference rival, won the competition with 37 team points, host Otsego was runner-up and Hollard Christian third. Wayland finished with 307 points.

The Wildcat boys settled for 18th place with 478 points. Grand Rapids Christian was first with 78, Otsego had 81 and East Grand Rapids 99.

Junior Rylee Cronkright again was the top Lady Wildcat harrier, finishing 31st in 19:59.2, the first time this season she’s broken the 20-minute barrier for the five-kilometer race.

Freshman Haylee Jasinski, coming into her own of late, was 56th in 20:48.5, 1.3 seconds faster than Gracie Hasse, who was 58th. Zoe Antel checked in 84th and Corrina Courser 11th.

The Lady Wildcats continue to compete without the services of sophomore Naomi Oosterhouse, who has been injured.

Sophomore Elijah Gaemlin led the Wayland boys with a time of 18:09.7, good for 67th place. Ian Russell was 99th, Jarod Gerrligs 103rd, Andrew VanBaal 122nd and Christian Courser 123rd.
